My Trip to Seven Countries (2)

Lani – Kona, Hawaii

(September 4-5, 2013)

Treviso, Dolomiti, Serrai di Sottoguda

Today, September 4, at 10:00am, I left Rome going to Termini station by taxi. I took high speed train going to Venezia Mestre station. It was still early when I got to Termini train station. The station was so busy, crowded with commuters from many places in Italy. My friends warned me, wherever I go in Italy, I should pay attention, and be careful, because they’ve many pickpockets.

I put my important stuffs in a small purse, attached to my body, and I covered it with my jacket, so that it would be very safe. Finally, my train took off at 11:50am sharp and got to Venezia Mestre at 15:23pm.

On the train I made a new friend, an Italian young woman, who is working for a jewelry company. She was going to Venice for a jewelry festival. When I got off from the train, I saw my friend, Cristina, who had just arrived. I was so happy to see her. Cristina is very friendly person, and has many friends.

Finally, her dream came true to see me but this time in Italy. I met her with her husband twice in Kona because he was competing in the Iron Man race. We were so happy to see each other again. It takes about ½ hour to drive from Venezia Mestre  to her house in Treviso. Treviso is a small quiet town, with green surroundings. Immediately, I took a shower, and then we went sightseeing to see the little town of Treviso.

She introduced me to one of her friends, he owns a café shop called “Indimenticabile” in town. He surprised me, the next morning when we stopped by his café shop. I ordered a cappuccino, which he prepared using Sumatera coffee beans. While I was enjoying my cappuccino, all of a sudden I heard one of the most famous Hawaiian song “over the rainbow”. It’s made me feel at home, even though I was far away from home. It touched me so much. I got up from my chair, and went to see him, to say thank you that he had made my day!

5 September 2013

Today, Cristina and I went to a rock formation called Dolomiti. It’s a little bit more than 1 hour drive from Treviso to Dolomiti. It is a very popular place in the winter for skiing. A popular tourist attraction is the 45 minute cable car ride which goes to up to the top of the mountain. Cristina brought her dog, Stella. She is big, very gentle and friendly dog.

(6) Stella likes this position when she lies down. It is probably comfortable for her

Finally, we arrived in Dolomiti, and we got out of the car. I felt the breeze, which was a bit cold for me, but the sun was shining bright.

On the other side of Dolomiti, there’s lush green grass. It’s a wonderful place for hiking

On the way back home, we stopped at this place calls Serrai di Sottoguda (Temple of the nature).

Serrai di Sottoguda is the name of the beautiful gorge that stretches about 2 km from the town of Sottoguda to the area of Malga Ciapela, at the foot of Queen of Dolomities, the Marmolada. Considered one of the most beautiful of the great natural wonders, countless visitors have come from far and wide to admire its majesty.

I hiked alone for 4 km, Cristina waiting for me on the bottom of the road, because her dog refused to go.

We had to buy a ticket to enjoy this place. I forgot how much but no more than 4 euros. To me it was worth it, because I liked the exercise of walking/hiking.

After finishing the hiking, we drove home, took showers and went out for dinner at the pizza place with Fabio, Cristina and her daughter. Again I’ve to say, Italian pizza is best!

To be continued………
