Lani – Kona, Hawaii
September 22: Today is my last day in the Netherlands.
We are taking train going to Leiden. Leiden is an old town.
The weather wasn’t so good, a bit cloudy and drizzling. We walked around town, I do enjoy it very much!
Enjoy the pictures:
Leiden central train central station
Canal, bicycle, and windmolen in the background
You can see a little bit on the left hand side, people on the boat, cruising the canal
I took this picture, I thought the building was interesting
One of the bridge in downtown Leiden
Canal, boats, the neighborhood
This bridge could be lift up so the tall boat can pass in this canal
The church from the distance
The church from the alley
The canal, boat, church, interesting view
In this town of Leiden, famous with it calls graffiti, but it’s poem graffiti in different languages, placed on the wall of the buildings
Anybody knows? Is this in Greek language?
Is it in Slovenian language? Please help, Novie, Wusi or Ayu, thanks. Would you translate it? Thanks
I think this is in Dutch?
This is the new royal couple
It’s a restaurant built as a boat on the canal
Bridge, canal, and the bicycle
More boats tight up to the edges of the canal
More restaurant at the edge of the canal
People who live in the 4 climates, they like being outside as much as they can, enjoy the warm weather to the maximum, before finally the weather is getting cold and they can’t sit outside anymore.
Interesting fountain, with gold fish sculpture
Look at the boat on the back ground, with a group of people in it, somebody celebrating birthday, singing, playing music, eating and drinking. They just want to have fun!
Finally we are hungry and having lunch at the restaurant which is selling many different flavors of panekoeken (it might be wrong spelling, please corrected would you please: Charles/Pim/Ron V thanks) one of traditional famous food in the Netherlands.
This is my pannekoeken, I chose to have sweet pannekoeken with slices of apple, raisin, and top with powdered sugar. So yummy! I can’t finished it, because it’s so big!
Me, and my pannekoeken
I took home my left over pannekoeken, I ate it tomorrow morning as my breakfast.
After lunch, we heading back to Den Haag. It was such wonderful day trip in Leiden. I enjoyed very much!
September 23: Today I am leaving the Netherlands to Montpellier, France. My friend who is suppose to give me a ride to the airport of Rotterdam calling sick.
Because of that sudden happened, I’ve to take train from Den Haag going to Rotterdam. Get off from the train station in Amsterdam central, change train going to Rotterdam. Get off at the Rotterdam train station, I’ve to take a bus going to the Rotterdam airport.
Arrived at the Rotterdam airport was still early, even the counter check-in of Transavia airlines wasn’t open yet.
Rotterdam airport is a small airport, I only see several stores, and 1 restaurant on the second floor. I walked around to kill the time, it was so boring. Finally, I went to the restaurant to have lunch.
I had Chinese style chicken wrap, with hoisin sauce, it’s delicious.
After finished lunch, I went down stair. The counter check-in was open and I was staying on the lines. I realized I’ve a problem with my luggage, the handle it won’t goes down! Basically the handle was stuck!
I asked for help from a security guy, if he can make that luggage handle will goes down, but no luck at all!
One guy in front of me, try to help me out, he is Dutch. He crack me laughed when he said : where is the knop (I don’t know how the right spelling for knop in Dutch, anybody?)
He looked at me, with a big question mark in his face. I said, I do understand what you were saying “knop” because we say that too in Indonesian. We laughed together this time. To me, it was so funny.
He can’t make the handle goes down, he gave up! Finally I talk to the counter check-in person, telling her what was going on with my luggage handle. She said, no problem you can check-it and I was going to write it down in this tag, that your luggage handle won’t goes down and please you sign it.
After finished check-in, I went to the counter security check-in, and wait again before boarding. I’m the only Asian flying to Montpellier in this flight. It takes about 2 hours flying from Rotterdam to Montpellier. The girl sit next to me on the plan is come from Tahiti, moved to Montpellier with her family since she was a child and since then she never go back home.
I arrived at Montpellier airport about 8:00pm, it’s also a small airport.
After pick up my luggage, I walk to arrival counter. Can’t wait to see Clara and her husband. I spotted them right away, she is a petite lady, and her husband Ali is big guy. This is our first met in person, I’m so happy to meet both of them……..
Both of them so friendly, I feel like we’ve been friends for long time…. I feel so welcome…….
To be continued…
