Takbir, The Sholat Eid and Silaturahmi

Text and Photo: Stefano Romano

The long night before Lebaran has seen thousands of Indonesians into the streets of Jakarta for Takbiran, the great feast to celebrate the name of Allah SWT. From the streets of Slipi, Petamburan, Tanah Abang, Jl. KH. Mansur, until to Monas, following the wagons and autobus crowded with people and children who played the drums, fireworks in the skies and streets overflowing with people.

From maghrib until 2 in the night. In the early morning it’s the prayer of Eid-il-Fitr in the Jami Masjid in Pondok Pinang, ending with silaturahmi through the narrow streets of Kampung Pondok Pinang. Two days merged into one great embrace of Jakarta people to Allah SWT.
